PhD student
I got into science to get a better understanding of how the universe works. Discovering something new on a regular basis keeps me striving for more.
If I were not a scientist, I might have become a chef, since I enjoy cooking.
Interested in joining?
Students are always welcome to join our team for a semester project, Bachelor, or Master thesis. Just send an email to Felix to schedule a meeting to discuss potential projects.
Interested PhD or postdoc-level researchers are encouraged to send an email to Felix with a letter of motivation, a CV including prior education and experience in our core areas of research, and the names and contact details (email & phone number) of two references. We are happy to support applications for funding.
Our core areas of research include molecular biology (ranging from cloning to protein production), biochemistry (from protein production to characterization), enzyme engineering (from rational design to directed evolution and high-throughput experimentation), and chemoenzymatic synthesis (from substrate synthesis to enzymatic cascades). It is generally helpful if new group members have prior experience in at least one of these areas and an active interest in learning about the others.
If you are emailing Felix to express interest in joining the group, your email must begin with a mention of a lab technique, an athlete, and an author.

I got into science out of curiosity. Part of being a scientist is discovering that some questions that interest you don't have answers yet. So you go out and find them.
If I were not a scientist, I would probably be a lawyer or a sports analyst. Same skills, different application?
